Introduction
EWII is a Danish energy company operating across district heating, electricity, and mobility. As the energy market evolves rapidly, EWII sought new ways to explore and understand how future energy systems may develop - and what this means for commercial infrastructure and strategic decision-making.
Challenge
EWII wanted to gain insights into the future energy market by engaging a broad range of public and private stakeholders. The ambition was to enable EWII to visualise likely scenarios for the energy system in 2028, including:
— A shared vision for a future energy system
— The role of commercial infrastructure
— Key development areas and emerging potentials
The challenge was not just analytical - but communicative: how to turn complex future scenarios into tangible insights that could support strategic dialogue and internal alignment.
Solution
KIRT x THOMSEN supported EWII by designing and facilitating a series of workshops and by helping implement design thinking methodologies into EWII’s workflow.
We developed visual and physical materials tailored for collaborative exploration - enabling participants to actively engage with future scenarios and infrastructure questions. The tools were designed to support dialogue, scenario-building, and shared understanding across disciplines and stakeholder perspectives.
As in several other KIRT x THOMSEN projects, the delivered materials were created to function both within workshops and across broader communication contexts - ensuring long-term value beyond the initial sessions.
Result
EWII has expressed strong satisfaction with the outcome of the collaboration. The workshops and visual tools have helped clarify perspectives on future energy systems and supported more informed strategic discussions.
The project has led to an ongoing dialogue between EWII and KIRT x THOMSEN about future initiatives, where similar methods and tools can continue to support EWII’s development and innovation efforts.
